Care Packages for Indiana Soldiers
Rich Taylor wanted to do something for our soldiers. With the helping hand of Sandy Hugey,
an incredible USO volunteer, Carmel Rotary was able to give back a little to our young men
and women fighting overseas.
Rich led the charge along with many fellow Rotarians. For several weeks Carmel Rotarians
and local businesses, like Meijer and Flymasters contributed and discounted items. Publishers
donated books. Students at Orchard Park Elementry wrote letters of encouragement. Volunteers
shopped and came together to pack 175 care packages for Indiana soldiers stationed on a
remote post in Afghanistan.
The care packages are currently on their way and expected to arrive soon to an undisclosed,
but dangerous location. Candy bars, foot powder, face buffs, books, cards and letters will
soon be opened by deserving young men and women serving their country.
After applying the last mailing label, Taylor said, "Lets do this again next year!"
Not a bad idea.
