Orchard Park Elementary School

Carmel Rotary Club is a proud partner with Orchard Park Elementary School in support of their mission to create a safe, nurturing learning environment where students will be empowered to achieve their potential, be productive citizens and life-long learners equipped to meet challenges in an ever changing world.
MENTORS
In pursuit of this goal, Carmel Rotary provides mentor/tutors who meet with their assigned students once a week if possible. A mentor not only reenforces academic skills with the student but also provide another caring adult in the student's life. Mentoring takes place at Orchard Park School during the school day. For those who can't commit to a once a week obligation, consider working in the school's media center (library).
To volunteer as a Mentor or Library Aide contact Rotarian Co-Chairs Sharleen Miller & Jan Viars
TASTE OF CARMEL at the Ritz Charles
The Parent Teachers Organization of Orchard Park Elementary School organizes the Taste of Carmel each year to raise funds for student programs and projects. Carmel Rotary Club is a contributing monetary sponsor and individual Rotarians support the PTO event by purchasing tickets to attend and sample area restaurants offerings.
Advance Tickets will be available at Rotary Meetings or from Rotarians Steve & Katie Lawson.
INTERVIEWERS
An annual event at Orchard Park School is a Junior Achievement program called BizTown which gives students an opportunity to prepare for and participate in the interviewing process. Rotarians conduct simulated job interviews with students to help them see the relationship between what they study in school and the skills needed for success in the real work world. Rotarians will be needed for a few hours for a yet to be determined date in spring.
DICTIONARIES
Third grade students and teachers eagerly await Carmel Rotary's annual tradition of presenting each third grade student with his/her own dictionary. The dictionaries have the Rotary Emblem and the 4-Way Test prominently displayed on a bookplate where the student can inscribe their own name. All present fourth and fifth graders use Carmel Rotary dictionaries. Rotarian Linda Sherman heads up this intitiative.
LIBRARY BOOKS
Each week the Carmel Rotary President presents our Program Speaker for that Club Meeting with a children's book for the Speaker to autograph. The book is then donated to the Orchard Park Elementary School Library in honor of our speaker. Many books in the Orchard Park School Media Center display the Carmel Rotary bookplate with the signature of one of our illustrious speakers.
HAPPY BOOKS
For a donation of $15, Carmel Rotarians can honor someone of their choice or celebrate a milestone with a children's book donated to the Orchard Park School Media Center. Rotarian Sharleen Miller will produce a Carmel Rotary Bookplate, place it in the book and bring it to a Club meeting for you or your honoree to sign. Your $15 contribution for the book will be billed to your Rotary Account. You can then present the book to the Club and it will be given to Orchard Park Elementary School. Linda has a wish list of children's books prepared by the Orchard Park Media Specialist. To select your book, check the Happy Books Wish List, then fill out the Orchard Park Happy Books Donation Form.
